You can safely call this traditional Frisian sailing ship a classic. The ship was developed from the Frisian fishing vessel and the design comes from Lemmer. For this barge we have built in a bow thruster (Craftsman Marine 125 KGF - 12V). And let's just be a specialist in that!
How it all started in 1876
It was shipyard De Boer from Lemmer in 1876 that made the first drawings of the ship. The aim was to make a fishing vessel for the Waddenzee and the Zuiderzee. Herring would be caught with it. It would also be used for the transport and storage of fish.
The Lemsteraak is discovered as a pleasure yacht
Over time it was discovered that the ship was very suitable as a pleasure yacht. The bun was removed and a cabin was added. This was often decorated with ornamental wood carvings and stained glass windows. You will encounter the most beautiful creations in the Netherlands. The wooden interior exudes Dutch history.
The Lemsteraak in the 21st century
In the 21st century, competitive sailing made the Lemsteraken tax return. The ships were improved with more profitable hulls and rigging. In 2002, the VA class organization even organized competitive sailing specifically for Lemsteraken.
The royal lemsteraak: De Groene Draeck
De Groene Draeck is a lemsteraak owned by our royal family. The name comes from the 'Vlieghende Groene Draeck'. This was a Dutch warship from 1623 and was used as a flagship of Piet Hein. A Perkins 6-cylinder diesel engine was chosen for the construction of the ship.

Mooring is quite a challenge with a ship of this size. With the installation of this bow thruster this has become a lot easier. With professional tools and special skills, our specialists were able to build the bow thruster in the hull.
